While I was on vacation I took advantage of an opportunity to visit the Detroit Historical Museum. I couldn't remember the last time I had been there. All I know is that I was way overdue. How can I not take advantage of a treasure such as the Historical Musem!

If you haven't visited lately, this week is your final chance to see "Detroit: The 'Reel' Story," a celebration of more than a century of going to the movies in the metro area, and (my favorite) "Detroit's Classic Radio Voices," a salute to some of Detroit's broadcasting legends.

This Sunday (Aug. 24) is the final day for both of those exhibits. The museum will then close for a summer recess, reopening with dollar days the weekend of Sept. 13 & 14.

In addition there's a walk through Detroit streets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a fascinating history of Detroit's auto industry (complete with cool TV car commercials from the 50's, 60's, and 70's!), and a chance to purchase a bit of Tiger Stadium history!

Lunchtime on Friday, August 8 was a little different for me. And a lot more enjoyable! Normally lunch for me is spent with a fork in one hand, pen in the other, notebooks in front of me, getting things together for the show before I leave for the radio station.

But this time it was different! Antipasto, pizza, and the good people of Buddy's at Northwestern Hwy. & Middlebelt in Farmington Hills. All of this after I was proud to be inducted into, or more accurately, onto the Buddy's Wall of Fame! Thanks to Marcia, Brett, Wesley, Jennifer, Gayle, and to Natasha!

The baselines may be a little shorter, the outfield is closer in, and to a group of kids with special needs and their parents it truly is the field of dreams!

It's the new Norm Hott Field at Clinton Township's Neil Reid Park and it was unveiled on Wednesday, August 6th. Now kids who may not have had a chance to play a traditional game of baseball will have the opportunity. The kids, about 80 of them spread through six teams, are part of the Little League Challenger Division.

Special thanks go to Marilyn Wittstock who laid the groundwork for the field over two years ago. The late Tony Filippis of Wright and Filippis Inc. organized donors and made endless phone calls. The Detroit Tigers Foundation kicked in $10,000 and former Tiger Sean Casey and his wife Mandi pitched in $10,000 of their own money. The field is named after Mandi's late grandfather. All told, the field cost about $120,000 and fundraising efforts continue.

Users are also invited to post advice on dealing with the neighbors in question. In the words of Brant Walker, "things that a real estate agent WON'T tell you" are the bread and butter of his website.

Hmmmm, am I jamming a little too loudly on the bass line of "My Sharona?" Guess I'd better log on to find out.
