PURE MICHIGAN! I'm so glad to be back in my home state! I started out of CK105 in Flint and, man, was I AWFUL. From there I worked at 92.1 The Edge in East Lansing and Wings 103.1 in Lapeer. My first Detroit gig was Z-Rock followed by 102.7 The Bear with Ted Nugent: talk about fun! Ted was hilarious and so great to fight with in the studio. When Ted took his show to his house and out of Detroit, things got a little less lively, so I took a job at WMMR in Philadelphia.
In Philly, I met my husband and we had our daughter, Mackenzie. I left WMMR and went to work part-time for WYSP while being home with our daughter. When Mackenzie turned four, we moved to Washington DC and I worked for DC101... also a riot. Washington DC is beautiful! There is nothing like the Cherry Blossom festival: simply amazing. We checked out museums and took ghost tours: the city is incredible.
A few years later, I started working for WRNR in Annapolis. I love the Annapolis vibe and the amazing people that populate Maryland's capitol. While with WRNR, my husband and I had our son, Jake, and I worked from home as WRNR's Digital Content Manager.
If I may tell you what you already know, Jay Towers is good people. When I found out I was going to be Jay's co-host, I literally screamed like I'd won the lottery. This is the funnest "job" I have ever had. Jay is a BLAST and he's also genuine, decent, a hard worker and also family oriented.... all values I hold in the highest respect... just please, don't tell him I said that... I like to keep him guessing.
We had dinner at Palo at 6pm with our friends from Disney. TC, Jodi and Cindy were fantastic hosts. This restaurant is simply amazing and very posh. I bring this up because when I go to a “fancy restaurant,” I sometimes stress that my manners won’t be strong enough to pull the evening off and I’ll end up embarrassing myself more than usual. Again we had a ton of delicious food, but I only got a few sneak pictures… Jay kept giving me the eyeballs when I got my camera out. We had a great time, but my stupid sweater was shedding and leaving little black fibers on the white table cloth. I looked like I was molting black fuzz. Several times I used my napkin to try and discreetly brush the fibers off… which of course, made it more awkward. Meanwhile, Chelsea, who said she “is not comfortable eating around new people,” chose to not eat part of her appetizer because she was having trouble properly cutting it. I told Chelsea neither of us had to worry cuz the DJ from Long Island totally tried to spike a piece of hard cheese. Her fork slid off the cheese, hit the plate, and flung the cheese off the table and on to the floor. It was AWESOME! BTW, she was really nice, but it was fun to watch someone else have a “Doni” moment.
From Palo, we headed back over to Jay’s favorite Detriot-esk watering hole, Cadillac. We had a beverage, and Jay continued his Matt Lauer obsession. At least four times this week, Jay has had mock interviews between himself and Matt Lauer. In EVERY ONE of these conversations, Jay is speaking to Matt about how awful it was witnessing my demise or Chelsea’s. Also, Chelsea called Jay out on his “Lying voice” which had me ROLLING! Jay totally has a voice he uses when we know he’s lying. “Yes, Doni. That’s a great idea. I totally back you and you should absolutely do that.” Jay is a funny, funny man.
