PURE MICHIGAN! I'm so glad to be back in my home state! I started out of CK105 in Flint and, man, was I AWFUL. From there I worked at 92.1 The Edge in East Lansing and Wings 103.1 in Lapeer. My first Detroit gig was Z-Rock followed by 102.7 The Bear with Ted Nugent: talk about fun! Ted was hilarious and so great to fight with in the studio. When Ted took his show to his house and out of Detroit, things got a little less lively, so I took a job at WMMR in Philadelphia.
In Philly, I met my husband and we had our daughter, Mackenzie. I left WMMR and went to work part-time for WYSP while being home with our daughter. When Mackenzie turned four, we moved to Washington DC and I worked for DC101... also a riot. Washington DC is beautiful! There is nothing like the Cherry Blossom festival: simply amazing. We checked out museums and took ghost tours: the city is incredible.
A few years later, I started working for WRNR in Annapolis. I love the Annapolis vibe and the amazing people that populate Maryland's capitol. While with WRNR, my husband and I had our son, Jake, and I worked from home as WRNR's Digital Content Manager.
If I may tell you what you already know, Jay Towers is good people. When I found out I was going to be Jay's co-host, I literally screamed like I'd won the lottery. This is the funnest "job" I have ever had. Jay is a BLAST and he's also genuine, decent, a hard worker and also family oriented.... all values I hold in the highest respect... just please, don't tell him I said that... I like to keep him guessing.
Jay had shoots for Fox and I decided to get my hair and nails done at Vista. I showed up at 4pm to get an up-do. The person who did my hair, Charlie, was very friendly and spritely. Charlie told me, with waving hands, about the nicest thing anyone ever said to him about his voice: “They told me my voice was melodic.” I agreed… when Charlie spoke it was like listening to Cinderella’s fairy godmother. Everything was wispy and magical. He was very sweet, even though we got off to an awkward start.
I was told to wear my evening attire to Vista when they did my hair. I did. I sat down in the chair and Charlie said, “So tell me about this dress you’re wearing tonight.” I said, “I’m wearing it.” Super. I am such a fashionista. I’m here to represent on behalf of THE D! Charlie did an AMAZING UP-DO for me. (picture below) My hair looked so good my outfit didn’t matter. Vista is really amazing and I asked Charlie to pose for me with his hair dryer. LOVED HIM! He was such a delightful part of my Vista experience. Irene, the Spa Director has really put together an amazing staff. Here are pictures of Charlie, Ilana, and the view I had while getting my hair done.
I got my nails done at 5pm with Alina. She’s from Romania and she does not mess around. I was going to get regular polish and she told me I wanted Shellac. I had never gotten shellac before, but since Alina was quite sure that’s what I wanted, I agreed. Shellac is AWESOME. My polish is not going ANYWHERE. It lasts for 2 weeks! Alina gave me the best manicure I have ever had. She used oils and gave me a hot stone massage on my forearms and hands. Then she gave me a bit of a chastising reprimand on not taking proper care of my hands. I would have been offended, but she was totally SPOT ON. I don’t take good care of my hands and I really appreciated the call out. Plus there’s something about being called out on not taking care of yourself by a woman with a Romanian accent that makes you pay attention. I will pause the blog now to apply some hand lotion.
