PURE MICHIGAN! I'm so glad to be back in my home state! I started out of CK105 in Flint and, man, was I AWFUL. From there I worked at 92.1 The Edge in East Lansing and Wings 103.1 in Lapeer. My first Detroit gig was Z-Rock followed by 102.7 The Bear with Ted Nugent: talk about fun! Ted was hilarious and so great to fight with in the studio. When Ted took his show to his house and out of Detroit, things got a little less lively, so I took a job at WMMR in Philadelphia.
In Philly, I met my husband and we had our daughter, Mackenzie. I left WMMR and went to work part-time for WYSP while being home with our daughter. When Mackenzie turned four, we moved to Washington DC and I worked for DC101... also a riot. Washington DC is beautiful! There is nothing like the Cherry Blossom festival: simply amazing. We checked out museums and took ghost tours: the city is incredible.
A few years later, I started working for WRNR in Annapolis. I love the Annapolis vibe and the amazing people that populate Maryland's capitol. While with WRNR, my husband and I had our son, Jake, and I worked from home as WRNR's Digital Content Manager.
If I may tell you what you already know, Jay Towers is good people. When I found out I was going to be Jay's co-host, I literally screamed like I'd won the lottery. This is the funnest "job" I have ever had. Jay is a BLAST and he's also genuine, decent, a hard worker and also family oriented.... all values I hold in the highest respect... just please, don't tell him I said that... I like to keep him guessing.
I woke up pretty early… around 6:30am and looked out my massive window to see what I thought was our ship parked in the harbor. It wasn’t our ship. It even had stuff at the top that looked like mouse ears! Jay, of course, made fun of me saying, “That’s like saying, ‘We could be in New York City… but we’re not.’” Also the name of the ship was in plain view and clearly NOT the Disney Wonder. Alex, I’ll take “Dumb Tourist” for a thousand.
We took some pictures from the hotel pool floor. It was an amazing view. Jay had scoped it out earlier when he went to the gym at the hotel. I did not work out at the hotel. I brought seven pairs of shoes and NONE of them are suitable for exercise. YAY ME! Good thing people don’t gain weight on cruises.
We went to breakfast at “Scoozi” around the corner from our hotel. DELICIOUS! It was a cool vibe, great service and most important, DELICIOUS FOOD. Jay decided that real men DO eat quiche… in fact, Chelsea and I ordered the deep dish quiche too. We decided to split one of Scoozi’s signature cinnamon rolls and split it as a breakfast appetizer… lol. OMG… it was the best cinnamon roll I ever tasted. It wasn’t covered in frosting… it was drizzled in British Columbia honey. If you ever want the most delicious honey you can possibly imagine, order yourself some BC honey. I didn’t even want to chew. I just wanted to let the flavor stay on my taste buds as long as humanly possible.
Over breakfast, Chelsea and I hatched a plan to steal my pillow. It was genius! I had brought my travel pillow with me. All I needed to do was swap pillow cases, leave MY pillow in place of the hotel pillow, and ‘the pillow that dreams are made of’ would be mine! Jay reminded us that was stealing and told we couldn’t do it. He also gave us a lecture about not embarrassing the show. I didn’t steal my pillow, but I am pretty sure my plan would have worked.
Chelsea asked our server where the bathroom was and he said, “Oh, they just closed them for renovations.” Chelsea’s eyes got big and then he said, “I’m just kidding. They’re around the corner on the left.” We had a lot of respect for our server… he totally had us on the bathroom hook.
We walked back to the hotel to gather our things and head over to the DISNEY WONDER! WOOT! First Chelsea stopped by my room and we were dorks and I braided her hair. I LOVE braiding hair. We headed down to the lobby to meet up with our Disney friends and head over to the ship!
