Big Hearts for Seniors presents AARP's first original film Care to Laugh

On May 23, 2019 at the Michigan Theater Big Hearts for Seniors will present AARP’s first original film Care to Laugh, a feature-length documentary on Jesus Trejo, a rising star in the comedy world who is pursuing his dream of success while caring for his aging parents.

An only child, Jesus becomes his parents’ sole caregiver. Transforming adversity into comedy, he uses his life experience as material for his routine. He continues to reach for his dream while taking over his father’s landscaping business to keep the family afloat. The film reveals how Jesus navigates his roles as a comedian and Millennial caregiver using laughter to ease stress and uncertainty, to show compassion, understanding and love.

This film screening, a fundraising event, is organized by Big Hearts for Seniors (BHS). BHS is comprised of five non-profit community-supported programs of Michigan Medicine that serve older adults. Together, Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels, Housing Bureau for Seniors, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Silver Club Memory Programs, and the Turner Senior Wellness Program help seniors seeking access to home-delivered meals, sustainable housing options, support to remain independent, lifelong learning opportunities and relief from social isolation, as well as care for those with dementia. All funds raised go directly to these programs to provide critical services.

Since 2006, Big Hearts for Seniors has raised funds through various endeavors which includes participation in the Big House/Big Heart races, various auction activities and numerous films presented at the Michigan Theater
